Eastern Dales Woodland Restoration
Grants for Tree Planting in the Dales
In December 2007 Yorwoods contributed to the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust’s successful bid to the SITA Trust for a two-year project to plant 75ha of woodland within the Eastern Dales. SITA is a waste management company and projects supported must be;
- within a designated radius of a landfill site
- either upland ash, upland oak and wet woodland
- extend Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland (ASNW)
- support the existing woodland network analysis that has been undertaken by Natural England
- contribute to SAC objectives by increasing amount of gill woodland

Other criteria for site selection and project design includes:
- restoration of native woodland on ASNW sites; overcoming fragmentation of ASNW
- enhancement of visual amenity and landscape character of the area
- economic potential of sustainable woodland management
- potential for carbon sequestration and flood prevention management
This partnership project partly aims to help deliver the Dales Woodland Strategy on behalf of the Dales Woodland Forum. The Strategy intends to double the amount of broadleaved woodland cover between 1996 and 2020.

Grants are available for planting and establishing trees either in a new woodland setting or for PAWS or coniferous plantation woodland settings. You can download the application form below and we can assist with the application process. We can also help with planting design and specification and signposting to suitable contractors to do the work. Please contact us for further advice.
