Are you looking to create woodlands?

Environmental charity the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) is interested in hearing from landowners in the Nidderdale AONB and Yorkshire Dales areas who want to plant new native broadleaf woodlands.

Landowners, managers and agents who have sites with the potential to be planted up as woodland are being encouraged to contact the Trust. Working with partners including the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, Nidderdale AONB and the Forestry Commission the Trust will help co-ordinate grant applications which can cover up to 100% of the total cost. The Trust also provides advice and support with design and specification of the new woodland, as well as help finding appropriate contractors to carry out the works.

Chris Lodge, YDMT Woodland Officer explained, “The Trust is proud to have been involved in over one hundred tree planting projects so far.  As part of our aims we intend to continue this work and increase the native broadleaf tree cover across Nidderdale and the Yorkshire Dales; helping to meet our targets and those of our partner organisations.”

New woodlands help to maintain the special qualities of the Dales and the AONB landscape as well as providing shelter for stock and improving land management by fencing out difficult areas to manage. Trees and woodlands are also essential in maintaining the health and well-being of our environment as well as providing a sustainable source of energy.

If you would like more information about woodland planting and if you have land you feel might be suitable for such projects please do not hesitate to contact Chris Lodge on 015242 51002 or email: chris.lodge@ydmt.org.
