Great Yorkshire Show 2009
The 2009 Great Yorkshire Show has just finished, a very successful three days for all of the Yorwoods staff involved.
In the Forestry Events Arena, run by Yorwoods on behalf of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, the crowds gathered to watch a huge variety of demonstrations and challenges, with precision felling, Man vs Machine, aerial rescue, sawmilling, chainsaw carving and of course, the Great British Poleclimbing Championships.
The greatest successes of the event came for Richard Batson and Grant Gallier, winners of the Novice and Expert poleclimbing categories respectively, with Grant climbing the 80 foot pole in 9.57second on his final climb of the weekend. Also deserving of a massive vote of thanks were the crowd and general public who dug deep in their pockets to help our veteran charity climber George Tipping raise a whopping £2,428 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. See the GALLERY PAGE for a few snapshots of the event.
Meanwhile, over in the Forestry Information Centre, other Yorwoods staff were also handling queries relating to all of our ongoing projects, whether woodfuel, training, certification or just general woodland information. With over 100 recorded enquiries to follow up on, the next couple of weeks will be taken up with wading through the file!
We'd like to thank Dave Wattam from Ridings Forestry for the mobile sawmilling, Mark Bell of Mark Bell Tree Services for his chainsaw carvings, Kirsty Robb, Marcus Van Stone and Ian Sheffner for the felling and cutting challenges, Chris White and crew from A Cut Above Tree Services for the aerial rescue demonstration and for belaying the climbing, Ian and Graham from John Deere Forestry for the loan of the 1270E Harvester and last but not least, Newton Investment Management for their generous sponsorship of the Great British Poleclimbing Championship.
