Managing Woodlands for Woodfuel
A very successful 'Managing Woodlands for Woodfuel' course was run at The Smithy at Aske on June 25th.
This one day course covered a wide range of areas of Woodland Management for the production of woodfuels, including management systems; timber quality; site assessments; measurement of timber; harvesting and extraction techniques, storage and seasoning.
The course was funded through the LandSkills training programme, reducing the cost to delegates from £100 down to £35. The 8 attendees included small woodland owners, land agents and estate managers, prospective woodfuel suppliers and estate foresters.
Course tutor Will Richardson said "The Aske Estate provided an excellent backdrop to the course, showcasing woodfuel production and supply and a commitment to managing their woods for woodfuel production. The delegates were able to see first-hand the woodfuel production techniques employed by the estate, and access to the woodland for practical exercises really enhanced the experience "
