The Zetland Estate has been successful in securing grant intervention through the Yorwoods Woodfuel Infrastructure Programme.  The programme supports the development of the woodfuel supply chain across North Yorkshire, East Riding, City of Hull and York.

The Estate, a 6,000 hectares mixed use estate with forestry and office lets,  put forward an application  to improve their current woodfuel handling systems, with the purchase of a new  telehandler which will be used to move both roundwood timber, prior to chipping and wood chip fuel, making their woodfuel operation more efficient and productive.

A local pioneer in the use of woodfuel, Zetland Estate have installed 4 woodfuel boilers, totalling 750kW to supply  heating and hot water requirements for a complex of office and domestic accommodation with all the fuel being produced from locally grown virgin roundwood timber.

The estate currently produces 700 tonnes of woodchip, mainly for their own requirements, and is looking to expand their woodfuel supply with the delivery of fuel to other woodfuel boilers within the local area.

Shaun Purkiss, Head Forester at Zetland Estate said “The opportunity to develop our fuel supply economics through this form of assistance is vital to create a reliable and professional business that can show potential customers that we can deliver a product on time with security. It is another corner stone of investment that will allow us to grow with the knowledge that we have the right equipment and storage to promote wood fuel in the area.”
