Under Managed Native and Ancient Woodlands Initiative

The protection and management of ancient and native woodland was highlighted as a key priority in the Regional Forestry Strategy. In recognition of the cultural and environmental importance of these woodlands, targeted funding is available to support management operations to improve woodland structure, increase light reaching the woodland floor and for the removal of non-native species in favour of native species. The priority areas have been identified where woodland management will have the greatest positive impact in the region as demonstrated on the Woodland Targeting Map. In addition to securing environmental benefits the increase of material into the woodfuel supply chain is also seen as a key output from this funding.

Grant aid towards 80% of agreed costs is available for operations such as small scale thinning, access improvements and forestry agent fees.

Yorwoods have been appointed to provide free advice and support to land owners and managers who wish to access this funding. Support with the application procedure is available as well as specific advice about planting specifications and management planning and operations in line with the programme’s objectives.

If you would like to discuss the opportunities this programme could offer you as a land manager or owner please email Ben Scotting or contact on 01765 609355.
