Woodfuel Programme Case Study 1 - Joblings

Joblings of West Tanfield have been successful in securing grant funding through Yorwood's Woodfuel Programme.

The aim of their application was to expand and develop the forestry contracting element of the business, by purchasing a Valtra M130 Forestry Tractor. The new forestry modified tractor will be used in the harvesting, extraction and delivery of forestry products for local and regional woodfuel markets.

Joblings carry our various timber added value activities and it was a natural progression for the business to get involved in woodfuel production and supply. The business also works with other forestry contractors to move wood for biomass markets, either as roundwood or as chip.

Joblings carry out the majority of their contracting work on small undermanaged and often neglected woodlands. The forestry modified tractor will play a vital role in these operations. Due to the nature of their work a high proportion of low grade timber is produced, which is ideal for entering the biomass supply chain. The biomass products that Joblings will be producing will be for both small and medium scale heat markets and also larger power generators.
